The lack of a prologue in this romance story might indicate to us that nothing of great importance had happened to Yvain until this story had begun. He was just another regular royal knight who did everything that was ever asked of him. Not having a prologue can also tell us that more of the romance of the story is yet to be told and it is coming in the other parts of the story. Or that the romance in this is just normal romance. Love between a knight and his lady, nothing more nothing less. For the writer not to bother to write a prologue, might suggest there will be an epilogue at the end of the story; trying to switch things up or to surprise us. Or the writer didn’t have time to write a prologue, since the story came to him so strongly.
The story developed slowly. Wasn’t sure when the actually romance story would start until it was already happening. Introducing so many characters at the beginning, the romance could have been about any one of them. It was different them most other love stories. Was strung together nicely though. Had some room for your mind to wander and think what was going to happen next. But it being a romance story, also limited what you thought the outcome would be.
